Genetic Mutations - General Science & General Esoterism - Non-Elaborate Posts - Post 2

Genetic mutations arise through various mechanisms, including spontaneous errors during DNA replication, DNA damage caused by external agents (mutagens), and transposable elements.

Spontaneous mutations occur when DNA polymerase, the enzyme responsible for replicating DNA, makes mistakes during the copying process. These errors can include base substitutions (transitions or transversions), insertions, or deletions of nucleotides.

Mutagens, such as ultraviolet (UV) radiation, chemical compounds, and ionizing radiation, can directly damage DNA, leading to mutations if the damage is not properly repaired.
